The surveying work will start immediately after Metsä Fibre’s investment decision. Mitta’s tasks related to the reference point network would be done first in the construction project.
“A high-quality and well-designed surveying base with functional control points is the most essential element in a successful construction project. In such large projects, its importance is further emphasized,” says Mikko Ilmonen, Director of Mittas Surveying business.

“The preliminary agreement with Metsä Fibre on comprehensive surveying services is a strong demonstration of confidence in Mitta and our expertise. A few years ago, we gained valuable experience from the Äänekoski bioproduct mill project, and as a result of this we have improved our operating processes and found new technological solutions. Mitta has also participated in major projects in the paper industry outside Finland, for example in Uruguay.” Ilmonen adds.

“We select the best professionals in their field as partners to build a modern bioproduct mill in Kemi. Mitta oy shares with us the same values and commitment to the project’s goals in terms of safety, schedule and quality. We shall now continue the good co-operation that began in the Äänekoski bioproduct mill project with another significant and large project in Kemi,” says Jari-Pekka Johansson, Project Director from Metsä Fibre

Metsä Fibre is planning a new generation bioproduct mill with annual production capacity of approximately 1.5 million tonnes of softwood and hardwood pulp, as well as various other bioproducts. When completed, the mill would be the biggest wood processing unit in the Northern hemisphere. The new mill would replace the current Kemi pulp mill. Metsä Fibre’s investment decision amounting to EUR 1.5 million related to the construction of the bioproduct mill will be made at the earliest after the environmental permit process has been completed this year.
